Hongkong Land Launches The Landmark Cityscape with Queen's Road Central Double Lane Lay-by
HONG KONG, 19th April 2005 -- Hongkong Land today announced the opening of a newly-built double lane lay-by beside Queen's Road Central as part of the Company's continuing efforts to help enhance the physical environment of Central District.
The lay-by is an anchor component of the Company's 'Landmark Cityscape' project, which in turn is part of a broader 'CENTRAL Cityscape' Scheme. It features stylish pavement treatments and facilitates access to The Landmark and its neighbouring properties with its convenient drop-off and pick-up area. The Landmark surroundings will be complemented with enhanced greenery, with a cluster of planters and new trees which will provide additional light shading for the vicinity.
Officiating the opening ceremony of the lay-by, Hongkong Land's Chief Executive Nicholas Sallnow-Smith said, "Hongkong Land has consistently been supportive of efforts to enhance the physical environment of Central District, especially programmes that help make Central more visually pleasing, attractive and enjoyable.
"In 2003, and with support from the Government, we launched our 'CENTRAL Cityscape' Scheme through a pilot enhancement of the pedestrian area outside Prince's Building. That project, I'm pleased to say, was well received."
He added, "Our 'CENTRAL Cityscape' Scheme is designed to support the Government's aspiration for Hong Kong as 'Asia's world city'. We are pleased with the first steps we have taken and we will continue to build on these to create a truly world class CBD."
Hongkong Land's 'CENTRAL Cityscape' Scheme was developed after extensive research had been conducted in world cities such as New York, London and Paris. The Scheme focuses on enhancing common features, such as stylish pavement treatments, street furniture, signage, greenery and improved lighting.
Mr. Sallnow-Smith and Mr. Raymond Chow, Hongkong Land's Executive Director officiated the opening ceremony together with Guests of Honour, Dr. Sarah Liao, JP, Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, Ms. Shelley Lee, Mr Chan Tak Chor, MH, Chairman of Central & Western District Council, and Mr. Wu Chor Nam, JP, Vice Chairman of Central & Western District Council.
